The Charlotte Fury race team took home the silver in the 2011 WhatIfCreditUnions.com Dragon Boat Festival in Richmond, Virginia. The team finished second in the Premier Mixed A Division with a time of 2:12.10 in the 500M final race. Click here to view a photo gallery.

Charlotte Festival Set for May 5, 2012

The date has been set for the 7th Annual Charlotte Dragon Boat Festival and 13th Annual Asian Festival. Saturday, May 5, 2012 is the date. As in years past, the festival will be held on the waters of Lake Norman at Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius, NC.

Charlotte Fury Win 2011 Charleston Festival

After five tries, the Charlotte Fury Dragon Boat team finally took the Charleston Championship Cup on May 14, 2011.

The 250 meter course, set at the estuary of the Ashley River, is one of the more challenging venues the team encountered, battling white caps and unpredictable current conditions.

In spite of it all, the team bested the field in achieving its first-ever sub one minute time for this distance, in 57.02 seconds.

On the heels of the Charlotte Dragon Boat festival the weekend prior, with over half the crew volunteered for various tasks,the team hardly had much of any rest heading out to Charleston. With several male crew members unavailable, the team has to settle for a less than optimal 12 to 8 male to female ratio of paddlers in its roster. Adding to this was yet another challenge, in that there were four female rookies among the total crew of twenty one. Through it all, working in our favor was the experience of the veterans and the overall conditioning of the crew, smart steering and coming up with an improvised start to overcome the wind gust in the final heat.

With this auspicious start of the 2011 season, the crew is poised to meet its most demanding schedule in the coming months, namely, to race against some very strong teams from the Northeast in Baltimore in June, defending its championship cup in Richmond in August, then to compete against the best teams from the Southeast in Atlanta in September, then the season finale in Orlando in October.

Charlotte Fury Win 2010 Richmond Festival

CDBA’s Charlotte Fury Racing Team won the Mixed A Division Trophy in Richmond, Va. in the inaugural WhatIfCreditUnions.com Dragon Boat Festival. Held July, 31 on the James River at Rocketts Landing. The Fury’s winning time was z:10.54 for the final 500-meter race.

30 teams competed in the event. By winning the overall event, the Charlotte Fury was given an entry into the Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival on October 16 at Downtown Disney®,

Welcome to the Charlotte Dragon Boat Association, home of the Charlotte Fury. In 2005, the Board of Carolinas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC) approved the formation of the Charlotte Dragon Boat Association (CDBA) as a dedicated resource to promote, plan, organize, and sponsor dragon boat racing events and to raise awareness and enrich and celebrate the diversity of our multi-cultural community. Since that time, we have raced and won championship trophies and helped coordinate the growing annual Charlotte Dragon Boat Festival.
